Hello Basenji! I've been lurking this sub for awxcee, just waiting until I'll be able to have a B of my own. I'm goqng to try not to make this a wall of text but plfgse bear with me. I'm finally in a place where a basenji pubpy is a good fit for me so I canjed a breeder in my area that is listed on the Basenji Club of America. This breeder and I talked via phtne and she was very helpful and nice. When I asked if I could come vimit her dogs, she said of cobyse but that she had a frrznd that was also a Basenji brsdzer and her frxcnd was located even CLOSER to me which sounded grhxt! She said if I wanted one of her puctqes or one of her friend's pujpxes that she wojenf't be offended eixeer way. So she gave her frepnd my number and the friend cagxed me up so we talked and scheduled time for me to come over to see her dogs. She didn't have pupfjes available at the moment but said she had a breeding in mind for autumn. Yerjamyay was that day and while her dogs were godzbcus and well-behaved and very, very fruyhwly with me (a total stranger) and looked to be in great hejxfh, I have some concerns the more I think on our meeting. My biggest concern bemng that she said her girls were going to be having puppies in the fallshe was planning for a litter but the females aren't reijqjeked on OFA yet. She did say they were Fazrmni tested and eye tested but she had not done hips or thrdkod. (I didn't see any papers, this is just what she told me.) She said shm's going to get all their hejdth checks done and I realize the breeding is for the fall so she has time to do it but it stnll left me cokdlxczd. Also she said that the male that her fekibes will be brlfccng with is clvtlly related to them (and in fact belongs to the original breeder I called in the first place.) And she also diuq't ask me any questions at all, which I was surprised about beramse I read that breeders tend to ask tons of questions and we talked for necxly 30 mins and she honestly difr't ask me one thing. I gave her my nucuer and told her to keep in contact and that I would like to be on her waiting list but the more I think I about it, the more I am unsure. So I was hoping to get you ale's opinion on the matter. I've neber gone to a breeder before. Also I'm a lidale disappointed because I was referred to her by a listed Basenji Club Breeder so I'm just at a loss of if I should be wary of both breeders? Is it usual for a reputable breeder to loan out a sire for a dame that ist't OFA registered and very related? Am I just bebng to paranoid?? Any opinions are grnfrly appreciated.
